All 26 laws are now open. Turn a card to read the governing idea, then discover the story and practice behind it in the book.

Start here

You have good people.
Why does the same problem keep coming back?

The conventional response to underperformance is to work on the people: train them, inspire them, measure them, replace them. The fix holds for about six weeks, then the organisation reabsorbs it the way the sea reabsorbs a footprint. This book works on the conditions instead, the quiet laws that decide what people experience and repeat. It rebuilds them in three acts.

A personal message

Every organisation makes people feel something. Very few decide what.

I've spent more than twenty years inside organisations across the Caribbean, Asia and the Americas, much of it in hospitality. Here is what I couldn't stop noticing: the places that let people down were rarely short on good people or good intentions. They were short on design. Care depended on who was on shift, what kind of day they were having, and whether the right manager happened to be in the building.

I suspect you've felt this too. As a guest, as a customer, probably as an employee. You can tell within minutes whether a place has thought about you or is simply getting through you.

This book is my answer to that. I call it the Human Experience Operating System, which is a big name for a simple idea: what people feel in your organisation is being produced by something, every single day, and you can build that something on purpose. The 26 Laws show you how. I've told them through the story of a resort that has lost its way, because I wanted you to watch the work happen, with real pressure and real people. Each chapter closes with A Final Thought, a question to take back to your own workplace.

I didn't write this book to sit on a shelf. I wrote it to be used, argued with, marked up and carried into your Monday meeting. If it helps you build a place where people do well and the results follow, it has done its job. And I would love to hear how it goes.

Join me in building a more human way to work, lead, serve and belong.

Inside the book

A story you will recognise.
A system you can build.

Running through every chapter is the story of a beachfront resort on a small Caribbean island: its decline, its three failed improvement programmes, and the transformation that followed. The resort is a composite, assembled from patterns that repeat in organisations of every kind, so that you can study the anatomy of failure and recovery whole.

Each law compresses a chapter of hard-won practice into a single sentence a leader can carry into the room.

  • Twenty-eight chapters across three movements
  • Twenty-six governing laws, gathered in a single appendix
  • A continuous narrative drawn from decades of real engagements
  • Questions and practical frameworks for diagnosis, implementation and organisational maturity
  • A full glossary of the Human Experience Operating System

Act I · The Diagnosis

See it clearly

Why sincere, well-funded efforts keep fading. You will recognise your own organisation in the story of a resort that meant every word of its mission, and learn to spot drift while it is still quiet.

Act II · The Construction

Build it deliberately

The operating system assembled layer by layer: purpose, philosophy, behaviour, leadership, learning, systems, measurement and alignment. Every layer ends as something you can use on Monday.

Act III · The Practice

Make it last

Transformation that survives the six-week mark: the work of implementation, organisational intelligence, maturity and renewal that keeps improvement alive after the initial enthusiasm fades.

Your first chapter is ready

A forgotten anniversary.
A note that went nowhere.

Chapter 2 begins with a housekeeper who notices something important and an organisation that has nowhere to put it. It introduces the first law and closes with A Final Thought, a question for your own workplace.

Before you choose

A few honest answers.

You should know what you are buying and how to begin.

Choose your edition
Is this only for people in hospitality?

No. The resort is the setting, not the limit of the book. The questions concern leadership, culture, service and the conditions people work inside. The book is written for people who can influence those conditions, across industries and team sizes.

Is the resort a real organisation?

It is a composite, assembled from patterns observed across many engagements. It is not an account of one property or its employees.

Can I read it before deciding?

Yes. Read the complete published Chapter 2 here. No signup or purchase is required.

Where do I buy, and which formats are available?

Hardcover, paperback and Kindle are listed on Amazon. The purchase links open the book’s Amazon listing, where you can choose the format. Amazon shows the final price, availability and delivery options for your location.

Can I order for my team?

Yes. Send a book-order enquiry with the number of copies, destination and date needed. Quantities, pricing and delivery are confirmed before an order is agreed.

Does joining the Author’s List include a signed book?

No. Joining is free and brings author updates, including news about signed-copy opportunities and events. It does not include a book purchase. Standard Amazon editions are not described here as signed copies.
