Leaders. Team managers. People professionals. Consultants. Anyone ready to look beyond the recurring problem.
All 26 laws are now open. Turn a card to read the governing idea, then discover the story and practice behind it in the book.
Start here
The conventional response to underperformance is to work on the people: train them, inspire them, measure them, replace them. The fix holds for about six weeks, then the organisation reabsorbs it the way the sea reabsorbs a footprint. This book works on the conditions instead, the quiet laws that decide what people experience and repeat. It rebuilds them in three acts.

Inside the book
Running through every chapter is the story of a beachfront resort on a small Caribbean island: its decline, its three failed improvement programmes, and the transformation that followed. The resort is a composite, assembled from patterns that repeat in organisations of every kind, so that you can study the anatomy of failure and recovery whole.
Each law compresses a chapter of hard-won practice into a single sentence a leader can carry into the room.
Why sincere, well-funded efforts keep fading. You will recognise your own organisation in the story of a resort that meant every word of its mission, and learn to spot drift while it is still quiet.
The operating system assembled layer by layer: purpose, philosophy, behaviour, leadership, learning, systems, measurement and alignment. Every layer ends as something you can use on Monday.
Transformation that survives the six-week mark: the work of implementation, organisational intelligence, maturity and renewal that keeps improvement alive after the initial enthusiasm fades.
Your first chapter is ready
Chapter 2 begins with a housekeeper who notices something important and an organisation that has nowhere to put it. It introduces the first law and closes with A Final Thought, a question for your own workplace.

A 45-minute conversation about one chapter, six questions and one change you can try together.
Read Chapter 2: The Law of the Operating System. Ask each person to bring one everyday example of a process that makes good service easier or harder. Use situations, not colleagues’ names. No one needs to defend a department.
Every organisation produces the behaviour its conditions make easiest.
The Law of the Operating System, Law 1, Chapter 2; appendix p. 337.
Choose one handover, meeting or decision boundary. Write down what happens now, what you will change and who will notice the difference. After seven days, ask the people doing the work what became easier and what became harder. Keep, adjust or stop the change on the strength of that conversation.
